Mark Prosser vraagt op 20 september 2010:
Hello,
I have ordered a custom trailer from an italian manufacturer. This trailer has a modified van which will be used as kiosk for exposition of merchandise.
I will not approve the trailer in italy but directly at RDW (I will get a temporary plate to move it around). Shall I ask for individual trailer approval? Shall the trailer have fog lights? What kind of papers shall the manufacturer produce for me?
Thank you very much for your kindness
RobD antwoordt op 20 september 2010:
Contact the RDW and ask witch papers you certainly need.
Then inform the builder of the trailer what you need, also an invoice with VAT on it. If the Italian builder is common with export they should know what to deliver.
If the trailer is tailor made build, you need an induvidual approval, if it standard and is been imported before you get the same approval as the ones before.
But ones again: the builder and RDW are the ones you need to contact.

Thank you Rob for your reply!
The trailer is standard but has been modified (basically some props have been created inside); he has already done it for Germany and Belgium. Will I need individual approval in this case?
I am in contact with RDW but I would like to know if the conformity declaration (CVO) is enough or if the builder should also provide me with the european approval documents for the various EEC directives, because they say that they are compliant but don't have the documents because of italian beaurocracy issues.
Thanks

' they are compliant but don't have the documents because of italian beaurocracy issues'.
This should be no excuse for an exporting company, but it is typical italian trading. Are you sure this is the first one comming to NL? In that case you need the EU approval docs as well. And it that case it's not important that some things are modified inside, you get the full tech- and mecahnical test at the RDW.
Youre trailer becomes from that moment on the standard for the RDW for the following ones.
But in you're case: you are the first and has to deliver all documents, you must even the road for the onse following.
Good luck
Mark Prosser antwoordt op 20 september 2010:
Yes Rob I also think it's typical italian trading and I don't want surprises when I will need to approve the vehicle at RDW.
So I have understood that I must apply for individual trailer approval, is this correct? I initially had a doubt between "individual approval" and "small series approval", but they told me it's not my case.
I have found a list of EEC directives necessary for "small series approval", but not a list for "individual approval". Do you know where I could get such information? I have read the RDW document for individual series approval but it does not mention specifically the EEC directives.
I will inform about the trailer to see if it is the first being approved has you said; thank you very much!
RobD antwoordt op 22 september 2010:
Mark, why don't you give them a call at the RDW?
There should be some-one who speaks English and is able to provide you with all the detail information? We all are "specialists" but they know all the facts to the smallest detail..
I quote there website:The RDW can be reached 24 hours a day by e-mail or by post. Our Customer Service Department is also available by telephone between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm (Monday - Friday). The number is 0900-07 39
@Eric antwoordt op 22 september 2010:
Is this trailer the same max 750 kilo trailer as in your other question?
If so, you don't need any papers at all.
But, the nett weight that can be loaded (250 kilo ?) will probably be insufficient for a kiosk including all materials.
I think for instance that there will at least be a spare wheel in the trailer, that's the first thing you'll have to deduct from the nett available weight.
Mark Prosser antwoordt op 22 september 2010:
I am indeed in contact with RDW but I have had problems at calling them from abroad, so your help has been invaluable to get some pointers; thank you.
ricky antwoordt op 22 september 2010:
Hi Mark,
From abroad you can use following number +31 598 39 33 30.
Good luck.
Ricky
